Coach Garren is a Winder native with experience as a multi-sport athlete and coach. She graduated from Winder-Barrow High School in 2003. Coach Garren is in her 2nd season as the Head Basketball Coach after leading the team to the Elite 8 her first year. Her combination of experience in academics and athletics, makes her a valuable resource for players and parents. You cannot find a bigger advocate and supporter of our Lady Doggs athletes than Coach Garren.

In 2016, she was inducted into the Winder-Barrow High School Hall of Fame for her outstanding achievements as a Lady Dogg. In 2017, she was named Head Coach of the Lady Doggs.



Coach DeFoor is in his third season as an Assistant Coach for both the football and girls basketball programs. Coach DeFoor brings a wide range of experience in coaching basketball, having led in the AAU ranks as well as serving as Head Coach on the varsity boys side. He will bring additional experience as the father of a collegiate basketball player that played at Georgia College and State University. We welcome him to the program, and look forward to his contributions.




Rob McFerrin, Athletic Director

Coach McFerrin is married to the former Stephanie Greeson and has two step-children, Anna and Matthew. Stephanie is also in education and they live in Auburn.

Coach McFerrin is a 1989 graduate of Dunwoody High School. After graduating from Dunwoody, he attended the University of Georgia where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in English Lit and a Master's in English Education in 1995. He also obtained a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama in 2004. Coach McFerrin began his career at Walton High School from 1995-1998 where he taught Language Arts and coached. He then moved on to South Gwinett High School where he taught from 1998-2004. Before coming to Winder-Barrow, Coach McFerrin was at Mill Creek High School from 2004-2013. Over the last 18 years, he has coached football, basketball, tennis, and volleyball and been involved in FCA.

dr. Al darby, principal

Dr. Al Darby is a 1992 graduate of Winder-Barrow High School. After graduating from WBHS, he attended Limestone University where he played basketball and baseball. After Limestone, he transferred to the University of Georgia where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Middle School Education in 1996. Dr. Darby also holds a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University (2010). Dr. Darby started his education career at Jackson County High School from 1996-2000. While at Jackson County, he was an assistant football, basketball, and baseball coach. He then moved on to Social Circle High School from 2000-2004. While at Social Circle, he was the Head Boys Basketball Coach, and Head Middle School Football Coach. In 2004, Dr. Darby came to Winder-Barrow High School as an Assistant Principal. He held that position from 2004-2008. In 2008, he was named Principal of Winder-Barrow High School, a position which he still holds today.
